Property Information

Saddleworth Museum and Art Gallery opened in 1962 and is situated in one of the out buildings of the 19th century Victoria Mill. The only part of the mill to survive - it stands in a historic and beautiful location beside the Huddersfield Narrow Canal in the village of Uppermill. Saddleworth Museum is full of intriguing objects from the past and tells the story of the people who have created Saddleworth’s landscape and character.

Saddleworth Museum and Art Gallery displays change regularly and we have two major exhibitions a year. Recent exhibitions were ‘Peterloo and the Saddleworth Connection’ and ‘Annie Kenney’ the story of a local suffragette. Art Gallery exhibitions change every six weeks and showcase the best local and regional contemporary art. Admission to the art gallery is free and most of the artwork is for sale. The museum also runs craft days for adults and half term ‘Boredom Busters’ for children. On the Textile Working Days you can see, hear and smell the textile machinery in action, and talk to our volunteers about life and work in the mills.
